Obituary: THOMAS K. MCGEE

Thomas Keyes McGee, Sr., 79, of Castle Hayne, died Friday, August 7, 2015 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Born October 14, 1935 in New Hanover County, he was the son of the late Stephen Keyes McGee and Martha Rivenbark McGee. He graduated from New Hanover High School and was in the Naval Reserves. Thomas was a tradesman, specializing in metal works and carpentry. He was the owner of McGee's Greenhouses for 30 years. In 1959 he married Rebecca Keith McGee, who survives.

He was a lifelong member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, where he was a former elder and deacon. A founding member of the Wrightsboro Volunteer Fire Department, he was an avid hunter, fisherman, farmer and assistant Scout Master of Troop 220 Wrightsboro. He enjoyed traveling throughout the US.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Thomas Keyes McGee, Jr., of Castle Hayne; two daughters, Rebecca McGee-Lankford and her husband, Keith of Durham and Linda Caroline McGee of Castle Hayne; a grandson, Marcus Lankford of Durham and numerous extended family.

Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am Friday, August 14, 2015 at Bethany Presbyterian Church. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 14, 2015 at Bethany Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
